Welcome to Breno's Homepage
Welcome to my webpage!
I am currently Lecturer in Operations Management at Aston Business School (Birmingham, UK), where I teach International Operations (undergrad and postgraduate programmes) and Effective Project Delivery (Undergrad) modules.
I have finished my PhD degree in 2011. My PhD research was aimed at evaluating environmental decision making in manufacturing industries in four different countries: UK, USA, Germany and Thailand. I have investigated green operations initiatives, their drivers, origin of ideas, and decision making processes using case study research strategy. My supervisors were Professor David Bennett and Professor Duncan Shaw. I am from Brazil, from where I got a BSc and MSc degrees in Production Engineering, both from Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.
At Aston Business School, I belong to the Operations and Information Management research group. My research interests are focus on sustainability strategies, mostly linked to green operations and technology management.
Besides my research on sustainability, I keep a strong interest in a wider view of technology and innovation. To keep in touch with the "real world" of managing innovation and technology, I have a project-based company in Brazil that identifies, develops and implement creative ideas on the internet and mobile platforms. It is called the 4TheFuture Group. We are quite recent in the market, but our first global product will be launched soon! The 4TheFuture Group is my second try in the world of entrepreneurship. I was self-employed at NATAL JOGOS ON-LINE LTDA from November/2002 to November/2004, which was closed to pursue a PhD in UK.
Besides my own business, I have had a couple of years with industrial experience. I worked at the Small Business Support Service of Rio Grande do Norte State of Brazil (SEBRAE/RN) from May 2005 to October 2005. I occupied the position of trainee at the local development department, working directly with the cluster program. My major activities were strategical planning and performance evaluation, aiming at the promotion of competitiveness enhancement of the involved companies of the clusters as well as the improvement of product and process quality. In addition to the cluster program, I have also participated on the Managerial Lectures of SEBRAE/RN with the lecture of "Career Management" and on the Entrepreneurship Program among other activities.
As an independent consultant, I have helped the water agency in Natal to develop its strategic plan in 2005. I have also collaborated as vonluntary lecturer at Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte for the courses of: "Introduction of Production Engineering", "Environmental Management Systems" and "Manufacturing Strategy" during his time as graduate student.
In the Studenty Community, I am one of the founders of the Production Engineering Alumni Association (ProAlumni)
